Multitemporal Analysis of Meris-fr Data for Crop Monitoring in Two Agricultural Areas: Barrax and Toulouse

This paper presents a first analysis of MERIS-Full Resolution (FR) data to observe seasonal variations of the reflectances of agricultural fields in two regions with different climatic conditions: Toulouse (France) and Barrax (Castilla-La Mancha, Spain). The objective is to assess the capabilities of MERIS for crop monitoring. After applying an atmospheric correction method to the images we have analysed the temporal spectra of broad leaf crops (corn and sugarbeet) and cereals and calculated indices related to biophysical parameters (chlorophyll and LAI). The results are consistent with the crop seasonal variations of those parameters. We have also used the PROSPECT+SAIL model for simulating MERIS spectra. Using input data obtained from ground measurements, model results compared favourably with MERIS spectra.
